5 Habits That May Be Slowing Your Physical Therapy Recovery
If you’re in physical therapy, but not seeing the progress you expect, small daily habits may be holding you back.
At Ark Physical Therapy, we often see recovery slow down because of simple lifestyle factors outside the clinic. Here are five common ones and how to fix them.
1. Sitting Too Much
Long periods of sitting stress your back, hips, and knees which is especially harmful if you’re receiving treatment for those areas.
Fix it: Stand and move around every 30–45 minutes.
2. Skipping Home Exercises
Your progress doesn’t just happen in the clinic. Your home program is essential.
Fix it: Commit to 10–15 minutes daily. Consistency matters more than intensity.
3. Poor Sleep
Sleep is when your body repairs tissue and reduces inflammation.
Fix it: Aim for 7–9 hours per night and keep a consistent schedule.
4. Wearing Unsupportive Shoes
Footwear affects your knees, hips, and lower back. Without the proper support, progress may be limited.
Fix it: Wear supportive shoes and replace worn-out sneakers.
5. Ignoring Pain Signals
There’s a difference between normal soreness and warning pain.
If something doesn’t feel right, talk to your physical therapist before pushing through it.
